there is not really anything to fear if you think of it, what would be the worst thing that could happen if it hit sun? The sun would blow up? Nah i doubt it :P

I am sure its more then just a comet or asteroid though, time will tell.  ;D

this is the latest compilation of photos.  check this out...   the sun lets out a burst of energy towards the unknown object, yet the object remains unrelentlessly on path for a collision  with the sun later on today.  Based on the speed of this object, I would estimate an impact in about 10-11 hours (6-7pm, EST), if not sooner.  It should be an awesome evening for sungazing!

thanks, torz!

Yanno, the more I look at this, the more it looks like this object is coming in from an angle behind the sun and may pass the sun without impact.  It also looks like the sun let out an ejection more towards the backside of the sun than to the right of it.

ok just been doing a bit of research to see who else is talking about this and I found this on a christian site...
I cannot verify it but it is interesting...

"Postal Workers Advised to Stock Up "

"Friends,

I just got this e-mail from a very good friend in Tennessee (who knows the scoop). Look at what his Postman told him:

Yesterday, (Wed. July 1 ) my postman told me that his supervisor had every postal carrier attend a meeting at the local post office before they sorted/cased their mail for delivery. Their supervisor told them that they were to take immediate steps to be sure that they had 30 days food and water stored at their homes.

That is all that he had to report, and he was dead serious. He said those in attendance were shocked into silence. If I hear that this was officially announced throughout he postal system, I will give all of you notice of same. If not, I will not send another message on this subject. After all, it may be only a precautionary step taken by one postal supervisor or it could be official post office policy to insure that there is no interruption of mail service if some unforseen thing happens.

Yooper"

There was a post about "make sure you watch the sun July 6th-7th" over on http://planetxforecast.com about a week ago but I can't find it currently. Was wondering if it had to do with this as well.

I posted a video of a couple of comets hitting the sun on page two of the thread I believe. Things hit the sun all the time.

What did you see.... ohh I'm all excited now... tell me tell me ;D

Well friday 26th (night) about 11.00 11.30,I saw what I first thought was a single lone star very bright,I was thinking well its the only one, then it ummmmm like was moving vibrating like making a shape small moves,so being me I phoned my son in law and asked a stupid question "stars cant move in a restricted area can they and make shapes " lol he said NOOOOOO,then as I was talking to him and looking at the star shape it came closer towards me then I was telling my son in law "ok iv lost the plot the thing is coming closer...at this point another one appeared then the third one and they made an exact triangle...by this time I was lets say slightly emotional stating "there is a bloody triangle in the sky and no other stars and they are like moving, I was still on the phone when by son inlaw drove up.he saw it too and also the first point on the triangle was moving, then my son came out I asked him what do you see,he confirmed and asked mum stars dont move...and then said mum there is another one, there was another 3 stars making a perfect triangle, smaller than the first one...we watched these to about 12-30 am then as they appeared they disapeared.thats when I joked about the crop circle, that if the next day I find one had appeared .
I am a very grounded person and a skeptic and need validation on things.

I am not insane hehehehehehe I saw what I saw........... ;D

Dont know if the two are related

Wow what a brilliant sighting, I remember seeing something similar about 10 yrs ago...

Ok this thing in the image has clearly split into what looks like two objects since the CME earlier today... the images taken when it was hit are interesting as it looses all solidity not long after....

http://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/browse/2009/07/03/behind/cor2/2048/20090703_120754_d7c2B.jpg

and now it seems that there are two of them...
http://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/browse/2009/07/03/behind/cor2/2048/20090703_165320_n7c2B.jpg

now I could be totally wrong and if so please correct me, as this subject is gaining coverage on quite a few forums now and I see we have 1244 visitors to this thread from around the world!!

Yeah it looked to me like it definitely took that hit and shed some of it's mass and the second link you posted looks as though it is two smaller objects now.

I'm sure if the sun can deal with blowing off a comet twice the size of Jupiter, it can deal with this! :)

It appears the object has broken into no less than 2 objects after sol, sent a flare in its direction.  It seems the sun is defending its self.

A lot of people are saying that it is the planet Mercury and it will come out of the other side and not hit the sun at all.

Here is mercury a little over a year ago.
This truth is utterly lost to the materialism of the age. Those who do not see in Sun and Moon the bodies of Spiritual Beings cannot recognise the human body as the body of the Spirit.

I don`t trust my eyes let alone wherever this was taken from!
". . . out of the 6.6 billion people here, there are 6.6 billion potential journeys, all of which are different, yet similar to one another.  Each one is seemingly integral to someone else's journey, as we ultimately realize that we're all connected in one way or another.?

It looked as if the sun fire off at it, so not so sure I think it's Mercury (especially since it appeared to split into two).

I just went to check the latest images and they aren't there.

NASA says on one of their pages:

Quote
The easy way to identify it as Mercury is to use the STEREO Orbit Tool (http://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/where/). Put in the date, e.g. 31 December 2007, and select the "Inner solar system" option. You'll see that Mercury and STEREO Ahead were directly opposite each other during that time period. This means that Mercury was passing behind the Sun as seen by STEREO Ahead.

So I went to the URL they specified and the tool is missing grr. Was going to see if it was indeed a planet showing up.

Now this is a few days behind BUT it shows Mercury could be what we see going around behind the sun:
